Thoughts and Things Thursday #2 - Zombie Edition

For today's Thoughts and Things Thursday, I decided to go with a theme in honor of my friend Zoe, who in addition to being one of my best friends, has done so much to help me out with my blog and business. Well, her current obsession is... zombies! It's a popular obsession these days. They're everywhere. And they want your brains. Mmmm... brains.

+ Check out Nicola and Simon's stunning zombie apocalypse engagement photo shoot by Catwalk Wedding! Talk about memorable engagement photos. You can see more awesome photos on Rock N Roll Bride here, and the initial post with the photographer's thoughts on the photo shoot here.

+ What do you think of this proposal to build a zombie theme park?

+ Amy of Rapscallion has a very cool polymer clay jewelry shop. Polymer clay was one of my very first craft loves and I plan to post some creations and tutorials on the blog eventually. Amy's zombie heart necklace that is half brain, half stitched-up green skin is so perfectly zombie-tastic. Yeah, it's a word now.

+ Have you played the game Plants vs. Zombies? The premise: zombies slowly try to get into your house. You plant a garden full of plants that defend your house against the zombies. Zoe's favorite thing? The sneaky notes the zombies leave on your doorstep to try to convince you to let them in.
+ Agorables is a cool etsy shop full of zombies and other twisted art. Didn't you know... zombies need love too?

+ According to this article, the zombie apocalypse could actually happen. Hehe. Watch out!

+ What was your prom like? Hopefully not quite like this one...

+ I love laser-cut jewelry, and this zombie cat necklace by Miss Ella is no exception. I love the way laser-cutting singes the edge of wood pieces. Don't you?

+ And... the best part. I've heard of the Krispy Kreme Challenge 5K, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, the 5K Foam Fest, and all sorts of other runs in the Seattle(ish) area. But they all pale in comparison to Run for Your Lives: zombie-infested 5K run. It's a real thing. I was too chicken to participate... but Zoe and two other friends joined in! The zombie spots were all taken... so they had to sign up as runners.
Fortified bunker of dirty shoes. Photo from Zoe.

The zombies head into the Zombie Transformation Center to become zombie-fied and join the horde. And then they go out hunting.

Being a runner/survivor is good practice for the zombie apocalypse. Zoe noted that while it is a 5K course, veering off the path while being pursued by zombies or running around obstacles easily lengthens the race.
Apparently the Apocalypse is going to be very muddy. Photo from Zoe.

I wanted to go watch from the spectator "safe zone," but it cost something like $35 + a two-hour drive... so I passed this time around. Would have been fun though! Zoe called me after the race with the gory details. Hah. What intensity! She may have been electrocuted three times at the very end by a brutal electric fence obstacle, but apparently it was still a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the three of them did not survive the zombie apocalypse. Better luck surviving next year!

Also, as if on cue (I've been planning this post for a little while), my zombie unicorn dress finally arrived yesterday! It was an ordeal spanning several months, involving months of waiting, then ordering when it was finally in... only to have it arrive and realize that I needed to exchange sizes. Sent it in and of course by the time the return was processed, my size was out. Then more waiting. But alas, it is finally here. I'll definitely post it on the blog when I have a chance!

Is that enough zombie for you?

  1. LOVE it! I just do :]
Zombies and I have a love/hate relationship. They're hysterical and loads of fun . . . but serious zombie movies scare the beejeezies out of me. The thought of running from a mindless, starving horde and no where to go??? Out numbered??? Oh gosh. It puts me on edge.
And that zombie race? I'd totally be dead. Like before the finish line.
Probably wouldn't survive the apocalypse either ;]
    Have an awesome day!

    1. Heh, yeah, I'm not into really hardcore gory zombies, but some of the stuff I've seen that is more zombie/cute is pretty cool!

  3. I'm a new blogger and reader and fell in love with your blog once I came across it. Especially after this post! My siblings and I talk about zombie apocalypses and how we'd survive (inspired by a zombie videogame)and I'd agree that It's a very interesting topic. At my job they've even posted a guide on how to survive one. It's hilarious but everyone's in on the zombie craze!

  4. I have to admit zombies kinda creep me out, but I'm pretty much forced to be a fan of them since my boyfriend loves anything zombie related and is a Resident Evil addict. (Yes, he's counting down the days until the new one comes out, lol!)

    1. Haha I kinda figured they would probably cost you. That's hefty!

So are you going to be a runner again next year?! Hehe... I don't know, you may have to spend the next year trying to convince me!

  7. This is hilarious... what a fun post. I think zombie movies and such are incredibly entertaining and that a zombie theme park sounds amazing! I'd be down to visit for sure. The zombie 5k run is also incredibly hilarious! Very cool.

I didn't realize that you had a shop the first time I visited here. I just checked it out and it's very cute! I don't go on Etsy as much as I used to, but I love coming across the odd shop here and there. How has business been?

Are you enjoying summer? Post your zombie unicorn dress for us!

    1. Hehe yeah, my friend is still trying to convince me to do the run next year... I'm such a chicken though!

Thanks for visiting my shop! I honestly haven't been working on it as much as I'd like - I have tons of pieces partially made but haven't had a chance to finish them up. However, I'm actually launching my own site soon so I will be moving everything over eventually and start advertising. =)

Thanks for visiting and leaving me sweet comments! Oh, I definitely plan to post the zombie unicorn dress... just not sure when yet!

I actually think that I didn't even have it set up properly when you followed, so you may not be getting the feed (not sure, maybe you are, I've only updated once, haha!) if you still want to follow via bloglovin, i've updated the button, so it should work now.

    take care dearie!
